Transformations between HCLP and PCSP
We present a general methodology for transforming between HCLP and PCSP in both directions. HCLP and PCSP each have advantages when modelling problems, and each have advantages when implementing models and solving them. Using the work presented in this paper, the appropriate paradigm can be used for each of these steps, with a meaning-preserving transformation in between if necessary
A process algebra for synchronous concurrent constraint programming
Concurrent constraint programming is classically based on asynchronous communication via a shared store. This paper presents new version of the ask and tell primitives which features synchronicity. Our approach is based on the idea of telling new information just in the case that a concurrently running process is asking for it.
An operational and an algebraic semantics are defined. The algebraic semantics is proved to be sound and complete with respect to a compositional operational semantics which is also presented in the paper
Dominance Norms and Data for Spoken Ambiguous Words in British English
Words with multiple meanings (e.g. bark of the tree/dog) have provided important insights into several key topics within psycholinguistics. Experiments that use ambiguous words require stimuli to be carefully controlled for the relative frequency (dominance) of their different meanings, as this property has pervasive effects on numerous tasks. Dominance scores are often calculated from word association responses: by measuring the proportion of participants who respond to the word âbarkâ with dog-related (e.g. âwoofâ) or tree-related (e.g. âbranchâ) responses, researchers can estimate peopleâs relative preferences for these meanings. We collated data from a number of recent experiments and pre-tests to construct a dataset of 29,542 valid responses for 243 spoken ambiguous words from participants from the United Kingdom. We provide summary dominance data for the 182 ambiguous words that have a minimum of 100 responses, and a tool for automatically coding new word association responses based on responses in our coded set, which allows additional data to be more easily scored and added to this database. Helminth species richness in wild wood mice, Apodemus sylvaticus, is enhanced by the presence of the intestinal nematode Heligmosomoides polygyrus
We analysed 3 independently collected datasets of fully censused helminth burdens in wood mice, Apodemus sylvaticus,
testing the a priori hypothesis of Behnke et al. (2005) that the presence of the intestinal nematode Heligmosomoides polygyrus
predisposes wood mice to carrying other species of helminths. In Portugal, mice carrying H. polygyrus showed a higher
prevalence of other helminths but the magnitude of the effect was seasonal. In Egham, mice with H. polygyrus showed a
higher prevalence of other helminth species, not confounded by other factors. In Malham Tarn, mice carrying H. polygyrus
were more likely to be infected with other species, but only among older mice. Allowing for other factors, heavy residual
H. polygyrus infections carried more species of other helminths in both the Portugal and Egham data; species richness in
Malham was too low to conduct a similar analysis, but as H. polygyrus worm burdens increased, so the prevalence of other
helminths also increased. Our results support those of Behnke et al. (2005), providing firm evidence that at the level
of species richness a highly predictable element of co-infections in wood mice has now been defined: infection with
H. polygyrus has detectable consequences for the susceptibility of wood mice to other intestinal helminth species

Via and embedded resistor production in low cost lithographically printed substrates
Lithographic printing of silver based conductive inks to form circuit tracking provides a very low cost, environmentally friendly method of production. It allows circuits with line widths down to 100 Όm and a sheet resistance of 0.3 Ω per square to be produced at rates of up to 10000 impressions per hour. The process makes use of low capital cost equipment and has low set up costs. To date, an equally cost effective method of manufacturing vias in these circuits has not been developed. This paper proposes two new techniques for via production which are compatible with the rest of the manufacturing process. In the first technique, suitably profiled holes are laser drilled for subsequent filling as part of the lithographic printing. In the second technique laser energy is used to melt the substrate material so that it is able to mix with the conductive ink and so form a conductive path. The paper describes the proposed production techniques and discusses the factors affecting each method and in particular the substrate properties affecting production. The substrate materials considered in detail are Glossart and Teslin. The optical absorption and ablation characteristics of these materials for excimer and CO2 lasers are reported, as are the thermal diffusivities
Multi-agent systems as concurrent constraint processes
We present a language Scc for a specication of the direct exchange and/or the global sharing of information in multi-agent systems. Scc is based on concurrent constraint programming paradigm which we modify in such a way that agents can (i) maintain its local private store, (ii) share (read/write) the information in the global store and (iii) communicate with other agents (via multi-party or hand-shake). To justify our proposal we compare Scc to a recently proposed language for the exchange of information in multi-agent systems. Also we provide an operational semantics of Scc. Listeners and Readers Generalize Their Experience With Word Meanings Across Modalities
Research has shown that adults' lexical-semantic representations are surprisingly malleable. For instance, the interpretation of ambiguous words (e.g., bark) is influenced by experience such that recently encountered meanings become more readily available (Rodd et al., 2016, 2013). However, the mechanism underlying this word-meaning priming effect remains unclear, and competing accounts make different predictions about the extent to which information about word meanings that is gained within one modality (e.g., speech) is transferred to the other modality (e.g., reading) to aid comprehension. In two Web-based experiments, ambiguous target words were primed with either written or spoken sentences that biased their interpretation toward a subordinate meaning, or were unprimed. About 20 min after the prime exposure, interpretation of these target words was tested by presenting them in either written or spoken form, using word association (Experiment 1, N = 78) and speeded semantic relatedness decisions (Experiment 2, N = 181). Both experiments replicated the auditory unimodal priming effect shown previously (Rodd et al., 2016, 2013) and revealed significant cross-modal priming: primed meanings were retrieved more frequently and swiftly across all primed conditions compared with the unprimed baseline. Furthermore, there were no reliable differences in priming levels between unimodal and cross-modal prime-test conditions. These results indicate that recent experience with ambiguous word meanings can bias the reader's or listener's later interpretation of these words in a modality-general way. We identify possible loci of this effect within the context of models of long-term priming and ambiguity resolution
